OpenSSL 1.1.1pre1 fails to build on AIX 7.1

Norm Green
Looks like no target .a file is passed to ar ?

Note: OpenSSL 1.1.0 succeeds on this platform.

/export/localnew/RISC6000.AIX/perl-5.24.0/bin/perl -i -pe 's/^.*\|//; s/
\/(\\.|[^ ])*//; $_ = undef if (/: *$/ || /^(#.*| *)$/); $_.="\n" unless
!defined($_) or /\R$/g;' apps/s_socket.d.tmp
ar -X 64 apps/libapps.a apps/app_rand.o apps/apps.o apps/bf_prefix.o
apps/opt.o apps/s_cb.o apps/s_socket.o
ar: 0707-101 / is not a valid flag.
make: The error code from the last command is 1.

Stop.
make: The error code from the last command is 2.

slightly off topic .. sorry.

Looks like you are on a few risc platforms whereas I am still hacking
away on sparc.  When I say "sparc" I really mean a Fujitsu SPARCVII+
type unit and not a classic Sun sparcv9 unit. I will get to those
afterwards.

Adding "-cru" to arflags for AIX in Configuratinos/10-main.conf solves
the problem.

This was resolved, https://github.com/openssl/openssl/pull/5386.

Oh, it's passed alright, but no command flag is passed.  The attached
patch (which is currently in master and will therefore be part of the
next pre-release) fixes it.

Cheers,
Richard

commit 6475b64978083750018db90c60f4df142aa2e28f
Author: Richard Levitte <[hidden email]>
Date:   Thu Feb 15 22:38:24 2018 +0100

AIX: make sure that the arflags value includes the command letter (r)

In previous OpenSSL versions, this letter was part of the make
variable AR.  However, following the usual convention (read: GNU),
this letter is supposed to be part of ARFLAGS.
